Literacy Nation and iReadify will be hosting the first Black Literacy Month starting Monday, May 1, to Friday, May 28, 2022. Each week, authors, storytellers, illustrators, narrators, and families will read books, tell stories, and share their work.
According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), over the last 20 years, more than 80% of Black students in America have not been proficient in reading at the end of 4th grade. In 2019, less than 50% of Black 4th-grade students met the "basic" reading benchmark.
